From 1 September to 31 October 2026, we’re presenting Czechia in the Dark – A Sensory Journey into the Bohemian Forest:
How can you discover a landscape without seeing it?
In “DIALOGUE IN THE DARK. An Exhibition for Discovering the Invisible,” blind and visually impaired guides lead visitors through four completely dark experience rooms. In honour of Czechia, the first room will be transformed into the Bohemian Forest for two months: sounds, scents, and tactile objects tell the story of this landscape, offering a sensory introduction to one of the guest country’s most fascinating regions. Without visual impressions, perception shifts: hearing, smelling, and touching come to the fore. In this way, the Bohemian Forest is not simply observed, but experienced in an entirely new way.

On 8 October 2026 at 6:00 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.), you can Read with Your Fingers, Travel with All Your Senses – a Braille reading with Jaroslav Rudiš at the museum.
What connects a Czech author, a blind Braille reader, and the DIALOGMUSEUM deep beneath Frankfurt’s Hauptwache? A shared love of stories that can be experienced with all the senses.
Jaroslav Rudiš wanted to become a train driver, but his limited vision prevented him from pursuing this career. An experience familiar to many blind and visually impaired staff members at the DIALOGMUSEUM: professional aspirations change, and new paths emerge. Petty Waagö, blind leader of the guide team, will read from Rudiš’s “Gebrauchsanweisung fürs Zugreisen” (User Manual for Train Travel) in the Braille edition. His vivid, richly detailed language brings landscapes, sounds, and atmospheres to life far beyond the visual. Literature becomes multisensory. The Czech author will be present in person. Moderated by Tino Dallmann (MDR Kultur), the conversation will explore train travel, perception, life journeys, and the question of why the most beautiful route isn’t always the fastest.

What does a book feel like when images are not looked at, but discovered with the fingertips?
Together with the Czech association Tactus.cz, we are presenting a special selection of Braille and tactile books. Braille, tactile illustrations, and a variety of shapes, textures, and materials open up new ways for blind and visually impaired people to access stories, images, and knowledge. At the same time, the books invite sighted people to step outside their usual ways of perceiving the world and rediscover the joy of reading. This small exhibition offers a glimpse into the work and dedication of Tactus.cz and demonstrates how creativity, book design, and inclusion can work together. During the Czech Republic’s year as Guest of Honor, it highlights – and, above all, makes tangible – a facet of Czech book culture that stands for cultural participation and the diversity of reading.
