Winter experience “Comfort”
English Version:
This winter, our experience room is all about the feeling of comfort. The design, the atmosphere in the room, and the various stations at tables and bar tables allow you to relax and feel comfortable and secure.
There are a total of five stations that appeal to different senses. Talk to others about how comfort feels in your hands or how it smells. Perhaps you will also think of loved ones or special moments. You can get active and creative in our winter sky of comfort!
Instructions on how the stations work can be found on site and below.
General room design
The front door is open. Several pieces of newspaper can be seen on it, with the word “comfort” written vertically in black letters. A silver tinsel curtain hangs in the doorway. The room is lit all around by several strings of lights. On some tables there are glasses with small strings of lights shining inside them. There are also two table lamps on the large tables to improve visibility when doing crafts. Crackling campfire sounds further enhance the cozy atmosphere of the room. In the middle of the room is a large red patterned rug with fringes.
Station 1: What does comfort mean to you?
To the left of the entrance, more newspaper pages hang side by side on the wall as a mural. They feature a large question: “What does comfort mean to you?” In front of it, in the center, is a stool with a marker in a glass. There are also Post-its in different colors and in the shape of speech bubbles. Write down your thoughts on a Post-it and stick it on the newspaper wall. Continue straight ahead with the wall on your left to the next station.
Station 2: Hands full of comfort
A little way from the wall stands a large table, with its short side facing the door. The table is positioned so that you can walk completely around it. The table is covered with black fabric, which forms a hilly surface. There is an opening for the hands at each of the four corners of the table. Underneath the openings are various objects and materials.
When we touch things that feel good, we feel joy. Different materials and fabrics remind us of beautiful moments and comfort, and give us a sense of security.
Feel what you can find in the sensory boxes. Can you figure out what it is? Talk to other people at the station. Which of these things gives you a feeling of comfort? Does what you feel feel good? How does it feel? Does touching it remind you of a positive situation or person?
Hold each other’s hands, close your eyes, and feel how it feels!
If you continue straight ahead along the long side of the table, you will come to the next station. The standing table belonging to the station is located directly against the front wall.
Station 3: Wish list for comfort
This station is marked by a black bar table and a stool. On top of them are Post-it notes in speech bubble form and Edding markers. There is also a recording device with brief instructions for use on the bar table. A glass with fairy lights is also placed here. To the right of the bar table, a long poster made of newspaper is hanging on the wall. It says “Wish list for comfort.”
We all want to feel valued, comfortable, and secure. Sometimes that’s not so easy in everyday life. But often it’s the little things that make a big difference.
Let’s collect them together! What can others do to make me feel comfortable? How can I help others feel comfortable?
Write down your ideas on a Post-it note and stick it on the wall.
To the right of the station, on the other side of the room, is the next station. The table there protrudes into the room.
Station 4: Winter sky of comfort
At this station, you can do crafts. The craft station begins with a large black table. At each long end, there is a white bench with two seat cushions on it. At each short end, there is a stool. On the table is a glass with a string of lights, and a table lamp is clamped to one of the short ends. Here you can make snowflakes, decorate them, and stick them to the sky. There is some newspaper and other paper for crafting on the table. There are also handwritten instructions for a technique for cutting out snowflakes. In two glasses you will find colored pencils and glitter felt-tip pens. The glasses also contain craft scissors and tape for sticking.
Positive thoughts and feelings can create beautiful things. Let your warmth and comfort shine in our winter sky at the window!
Cut a star or snowflake out of the newspaper. You can use one of the templates to help you. Use colored pencils and glitter pens to decorate. If you want, you can think of someone who makes you feel safe and secure while you’re crafting – write their name on the star or snowflake.
We would be delighted if you would stick your artwork on our winter sky! But you are also welcome to take it with you or give it to someone as a gift.
Our winter sky is located on the long outer wall to the right of the door. There is a long glass façade there, overlooking the hustle and bustle of the Hauptwache. The curtains are drawn on both sides. The title “Winter Sky of comfort” is displayed in the center of the glass front. Snowflakes and stars are painted around it. Several colorful stars and snowflakes have already been hung in between. A string of lights hangs above the entire window front. In the middle in front of it is a large paper box with more paper for crafting, and to the left of it is a trash can.
Station 5 is located directly to the right on the wall next to the door, which we will come back to in a moment. A little further away from the wall is another black table with benches and stools, which also protrudes into the room. It has the same equipment as the other craft table. Here you can cut out stars using templates, decorate them, and stick them on. Behind this table is a mural made of newspaper. The word “comfort” is written large and vertically on it.
Behind the craft table, directly on the right wall, is a black bar table, which is the last station. There are two stools to the right and left of it.
Station 5: The scent of comfort
There are seven metal scent jars on the bar table, each filled with a different scent. There is also a glass with a string of lights inside on the table.
Scents and smells can trigger memories and feelings. Positive feelings arise when we smell our favorite food or the perfume of a loved one. Winter scents herald a time of coziness and comfort.
Smell the seven different scent jars on the table. Can you guess all the smells?
Talk about it: Which scents make you feel comfortable and why? Do you have a nice memory that goes with the smell? Does the smell remind you of someone close to you? Does the smell trigger positive feelings in you?
We hope you felt safe and comfortable in our winter experience room, were able to get creative, and had interesting conversations!
