The sensory stations ‘Touch’, ‘Hearing’ and ‘Smell’
If you turn right immediately after entering the foyer, you will find our museum shop. Here we have many different products that our visitors can purchase.
On the right-hand wall are our sensory stations, all of which are labelled in black lettering and Braille and are wheelchair accessible. Here you can sharpen all the senses you need for a tour before the guided tour begins. The first station is the discovery station. Here, visitors have the opportunity to take a quiz on a touchscreen to find out whether they are an ‘invisible friend’ or an ‘empathetic person’. We are happy to assist you with this. You will also find a QR code here that you can scan with a smartphone. It will take you to the quiz on our website, where it is available to everyone.
Next to it is our feel station. This station has several openings through which visitors can put their hands and feel what objects are behind them. You will find the solutions as images behind sliding panels on the lower left side. The answers are also written in Braille here.
On the left side of the touch station, there is a slightly protruding wall. If you follow it, you will reach a multifunctional room. Here, there are exhibitions, special events, workshops, and communication games, such as the Casino for Communication. In addition to the foyer, all visitors are welcome to stay here. To the left is another room for special events, which is usually locked. Following the protruding wall, you will come to two more sensory stations.
First, you will come to the hearing station. Here you will find a shelf with five maracas, each containing a different number of small stones. You can take these maracas out and shake them. The aim is to use your hearing to find out which of the rattles contains five stones. Above the shelf on the wall is a movable panel behind which the solution is written. It is also written in Braille.
A little further along the wall is our smelling station. Here you will find five buttons that you can press. Above the buttons is an opening from which a smell emerges. You can smell it and think about whether it seems familiar to you. The solutions for the different smells are written as pictures above the openings on the wall behind movable panels. They are also written in Braille.
