The foyer and reception area

There are many ways to prepare for a guided tour in our foyer. Visitors wait here until the tour begins. Sometimes the foyer can get very crowded and noisy.

A tactile floor guidance system leads through the museum. It connects the main entrance with the two seminar rooms to the right of the foyer, the sensory stations, the entrance to the sound room and the access to the staff area. All doors/passages accessible to visitors are at least 88 cm wide.

After entering the foyer, there are two tables with benches and stools on the left-hand side. Here you can sit and play communication games (Casino for Communication). Behind them, against the wall, is a piano that guests can play.

Right next to it is our photo box and sharing station, where visitors can take photos of themselves. These are stored in the photo box for 24 hours or sent by email as a souvenir. There is also information about the museum and other social projects, and you can make a donation.

Next is the reception desk, which is 95 cm high. All visitors must first register there. We scan the tickets and then provide important information about the tour schedule. You can always talk to the person behind the desk if something is unclear or you need our assistance.

A first aid kit is located at the reception desk. If necessary, please contact the reception staff. You can also borrow magnifying glasses at the reception desk.

People with disabilities aged 50 and over receive a reduced admission fee (€13), as do their accompanying persons. Trained participation assistants receive free admission.

Next to the counter, there is a model of the museum on a pedestal. The outlines of all the rooms are made of wood. The model is under a glass case, but you are welcome to remove it if you would like to feel the model.

If you continue along the wall next to the model, you will first come to our lockers, where visitors can store their valuables during their tour. You will need a euro coin or a deposit token for the lockers. The keys and lockers are numbered in black lettering and Braille. Our toilets for men and women are also located here on the right-hand side. Continuing along the corridor, you will find our multifunctional washroom. Here there is a disabled toilet for all genders and a changing table. The designated wheelchair-accessible toilet is accessible from both sides (at least 100 cm). There are folding grab rails on both sides of the toilet.

It is not possible to take assistance dogs into the dark exhibition rooms. According to Hessian Animal Welfare Ordinance § 5 Requirements for keeping animals in rooms and room units: A dog may only be kept in rooms or room units where natural daylight is guaranteed.
